Seeing a need for energetic, nonprofit work in this area, we formed our organization to provide sensible solutions. We're consistently growing and aim to work together with our community in order to further meet its needs.
Our nonprofit consists of a group of volunteers who have all been products of the Lynchburg community and want to give back to the place that raised and nurtured them to be the people that they are today.
Venus S. Hamlett; President/CEO/ and Founder had a vision to help stop the cycle of poverty in this area by reaching the young people in the hopes that they would one day carry the torch to teach future generation the importance of self sufficiency. She believes in the old adage that if you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day; but if you teach a man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime!
Venus S. Hamlett was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and relocated to Lynchburg, Virginia in 1987. She attended E. C. Glass High School where she participated in Touch of Glass show choir; varsity cheerleading; color guard; the Miss Bronze Pageant; the Beautillion and was nominated for Who's Who Among High School Students two years in a row.
After high school, she attended Virginia State University and Central Virginia Community College, but decided to change gears and become a cosmetologist. She then attended Regal Academy of Cosmetic Arts where she received a cosmetology license in 2006.
In 2012, she returned to school and received an Associates degree in Liberal Arts from Virginia University of Lynchburg graduating Summa Cum Laude. She then transferred to Liberty University where she received a Bachelors of Arts and Science degree in Business Administration. She worked for the City of Lynchburg Parks and Recreations from 2013-2017. During that time she was an Athletics League organizer and was instrumental in starting the city's first Bubble Soccer league. She also worked as a Community Recreation Programmer where she created the city's first holiday light show event in Riverside Park.
She is currently a mother of four and the Founder, CEO, and President of The Emperor and Empress Foundation. In addition to her work with the foundation she is also a member of the Young Professionals of Central Virginia and the International Society of Female Professionals.
Irving E. Hamlett Jr. was born and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended Heritage high school. After high school he attended Central Virginia Community College where he participated in the Engineering and Welding programs. He has worked as a welder, a commercial painter, a landscaper, and currently holds a CDL. The wealth of experience and knowledge that he has gained through learning different trades and working with different people in various fields has allowed him to be an important asset to this organization.
Arthur Sales Jr. was born and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia where he attended E.C.Glass High school. He lettered in track and field his sophomore and junior years and also participated in Upward Bounds/Talent Search as well as College Focus seminars where he became motivated to become the first college graduate in his family. During his time in the Upward Bounds summer program, held at Virginia Tech, he learned to play chess, ping pong, and fencing from his newly obtained Korean friends. This program also allowed him the opportunity to have many other cultural experiences such as attending several Broadway plays, savoir faire etiquette boutiques, and networking with students across the state of Virginia.
After high school, Arthur attended New River Community College where he received an Associates degree in Liberal Arts. He then transferred to Radford University where he graduated with a Bachelors in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism with his concentrations being Recreation Management, Hospitality, and Tourism. He has worked for Lynchburg, Blacksburg, Radford, and Christiansburg Parks and Recreation departments. Arthur plans to use a combination of his education and work experience to ensure that The Emperor and Empress Foundation is effective and efficient in meeting its program missions.
